Here's a taster of choir members' contributions on 'Waves A-coming In'

('So Much Magnificence').

Photo of the Choir in Amble town square on 4th June, taken by Norma

Here, below, is a screen view of 14 individual parts, showing all the wave files of each of the individual contributors. To add another part is a fairly straight forward procedure - rather like using an updated tape/digital recorder. To take part in any of these recordings just ask Sarah to invite you take part in the 'Soundtrap' project - the more the merrier!

You can sing along with someone else who is singing the same part you want to sing and mute the other parts which might distract you - it really isn't too daunting.

It's so much better when there's a wide cross-section from the different sections of the choir - all the individual voices coming together. Please ask if you need help.

A project devised by Sound Designer & Sound Designer, Matthew Tuckey

requesting your participation.

The project deadline is Monday 21st June 2021, if you wish to get involved.

The Rime Call-Out

We’re creating a sound journey of Amble - from the chirps of cracking ice to the chug

of boats on the tide. We’re taking your ears where your feet can’t go, revealing

hidden worlds - and we need you! This is your town. Who knows it better than you?

We want that honest sense of home in every sight and sound - of living and growing

up in Amble. Visiting somewhere for a day doesn’t mean you see the rhythms, colour

and music of a place: the full picture. Can you help us fill in the gaps?

How can I get involved?

We would love to hear:

  • your earliest or strongest memories of living and growing up next to the coast - what is it like to be part of this town?

  • your favourite places or activities, especially near or by the sea

  • sights and sounds you associate with living here

Deadline: Monday 21st June 2021

How do I share them?

You don’t need internet to share your stories with us. Simply call 01914 325467 and

leave us a loud and clear voicemail. You’ll have three minutes to share whatever is

important to you!

Don’t know where to begin?

Visit www.matthewtuckey.co.uk/the-rime-digital-scrapbook to check out our online scrapbook with sound, pictures, and recordings of the Rime of the Ancient Mariner to get you started!

You can then send us a postcard through the website with your stories, or call the phone number above.

Matthew was in touch with Choir Leader, Sarah and the Committee earlier this year. Now that funding for the project has been agreed, we extend the invite for you to participate.

The song that takes me back is Tiger Feet by Mud. In May 1977 I went to my friend Joan’s 21st birthday party with my fiancé, Andy. By then Andy and I had been together for nearly two years. We’d been to loads of discos in that time and he definitely had two left feet!

However, when someone requested Tiger Feet he and Joan started dancing and to my utter amazement he knew the steps! I have no idea how he learned them as there was no TV in his student flat and, of course, no internet or YouTube. Maybe it had something to do with beer.

In the 42 years we were together he never mastered any other dance to the same level of proficiency. Isn’t life strange?
